Hiring Process Update — Hiring Committee had implicit bias training yesterday that covered cognitive and systematic biases. The trainer also used the time to help us think about developing hiring criteria with these ideas in mind. Hiring Committee will meet next week to refine criteria and then select a pool of candidates to interview.
Dues Deduction Grievance Update — HR cancelled on us the morning of the scheduled meeting. They have until Monday to respond before the 30 day timeline runs out. They say they have a solution in the works, and we’re hopeful.
BBQ — We’ll make a bean salad (no fewer than 3), green salad (5-6 tubs), fruit salad, and coleslaw as sides. We’ll order two kegs of cider and two of beer. If there are any leftovers, we can use them for the strategic retreat. We’ll add a note about reserving some food for after sundown to accommodate Ramadan observers.
HIAC — Our HIAC team met today to discuss a change to the prescription plan. It would lower premiums a bit by steering people toward generic drugs (and do our part to help undermine the out of control profiteering of the prescription drug industry). We’re looking into the specific impacts for people on the plan before we express willingness to make the change. Once the HIAC team has a recommendation, they will come to an EC meeting to present.
Bargaining Update — We had a reasonably productive bargaining session where we saw the first Admin proposal that would make automatic year round enrollment possible. We’re still working on other issues, especially child care and health insurance premiums. We’re working on scheduling more sessions for the summer.
Summer Schedules — We need to schedule summer EC meetings with the new EC. New folks will send summer schedules so we can do that.
Refund Issue — One fair share objector did not receive their April refund check. We checked that the refund check was written, and it was. Since it hasn’t been cashed, we assume it has been lost, and we’ll write a check to make up the amount to the objector. We’ll keep track of the original check number to make sure it isn’t also cashed (since paying $25 to cancel a $10 check doesn’t make a lot of sense).
