In attendance: Thomas Morrill, Stephanie Parreira, Chris Mihiar, Vance Almquist, Clint Mattox, Kris Osterloh, Zhian Kamvar (late!); Ashley Bromley, Angela McClendon
Meeting called to order at 5:37 PM
Minutes from 2-23-2016 – Approved, after finishing a sentence that Thomas noticed was incomplete.
Email Decision – Approved putting slides from Howard Bunsis presentation on the CGE website.
Online Tax Payment – The EC approves Angela paying the February Federal payroll taxes online.
Howard Bunsis Event Debrief – It was very well attended! Ashley saw a lot of CGE people, a lot of undergrads, a lot of faculty, and a lot of classified staff. Stephanie found that the talk was much more interesting than she’d expected for a financial presentation. Ashley felt like the morning training talk was less successful but pointed us in the right direction to be able to do our own analyses. The EC approves reimbursing Ashley for the coffee she needed to buy since the coffee maker wasn’t working.
Bargaining Turnout – We have our LAST scheduled sessions for Winter Term this Friday the 4th and next Monday the 7th. After this, we’ll have a break of at least a few weeks. Bargaining topics will all be financials: returning to salary and health insurance (coverage and language on auto-enrollment), starting to talk about child care subsidies, English-language courses, and other financial topics. Thomas will draft an all-member email to go out tomorrow. All officers will contact the Stewards from their portions of the list. Kris will draft an email to go to non-members (the annual “Hey, you aren’t a CGE member, but we thought you might like to know about…” message).
Mizzou Solidarity Statement – As it turns out, they didn’t necessarily want locals to write their own solidarity statements. They just wanted locals to sign on in support of the statement they’d written. Ashley added CGE to the statement. Clint will email the link to the support document across the AGEL and CGEU mailing lists in case anyone there hasn’t seen it yet.
Convention Hotel Rooms – It took a bit of finagling, and the rooms won’t be contiguous, but we will have rooms for everyone. A portion of our delegation will need to change rooms between the first and second night but this seems like a pretty minor inconvenience.
Resolution Update 1 – The Convention committee met yesterday to work on updating the resolution language on implicit bias training per Steward Council input. It was not an easy meeting as there were a lot of strong feelings and not a lot of agreement. The bulk of the group felt that the resolution should include additional oppressed and underrepresented groups. They’ll work on including more groups but addressing the issues in less detail. The committee members will write portions of the resolution to submit to the Steward Council email list on Sunday for approval by Monday night, and if the SC approves then the EC will be asked to approve it at the EC meeting next week. Resolutions are due Wednesday the 9th.
Resolution Update 2 – Another resolution idea was raised last week by one of the Convention committee members. The EC does not think we’d be able to get sufficient feedback from the general membership in order to feel good about meeting the democratic and transparent decision-making process we’ve been aiming for these last several years. The EC agrees that we will not take it to Convention this year and will try to run it through our full process for next year’s Convention.
Spring Schedules – Officers will send their schedules to Ashley ASAP!
Alliance Meeting – The monthly Alliance for a Socially Just University is meeting tomorrow at noon in Hovland. Thomas can’t got this time, but Clint plans to attend and will give them a bargaining update.
AFT Higher Ed Conference – Riki and Meghann were excited to be selected and both interested in attending the pre-conference meeting. They are registered, Ashley booked their rooms, and they’ll book their flights (or Ashley will do it for them if they aren’t quick enough).
Meeting adjourned at 6:27 PM
