CGE Executive Council Meeting Minutes – December 11, 2012
In attendance: Forrest Parker, Michelle Marie, Eric Coker, Danny Ritter in person; Braden Elliott, Sydney Householder, Wren Keturi via video; Bret Seferian, Angela McClendon, Ashley Bromley, Sarah Burke, Eben Pullman
Meeting called to order at 12:15 PM
Minutes from 12-4-12 meeting – Approved
Email Decisions – None this week.
Campaign Update – Ashley and Sarah have been going around with “vote yes” petitions. It’s a little hard to find people right now but they’re working on it. Rob is getting campaign videos up on the website as Daniel finalizes them.
Public Health Issue – Positive outcome!
Grad School Follow-Up: FML – We’re unsure about the current status. We need to hear from Danny.
ASOSU Issue – We need to hear from Danny. [Danny’s here now!] He might be meeting with Jeri tomorrow.
CLC Meetings – We have agreed to reimburse Daniel for his driving to the meeting. He’s asked about reimbursement for food as well, and we’re not sure. We’ll ask him why.
Banner – This is a good time to finalize the banner design that was worked on (but then lost) earlier in the term. Okay, actually Wren didn’t lose it, she just needed to be reminded about it.
Zoology Unit Issue – There are a number of GTAs in the department who have been moved out of the unit. We are not sure why. We probably need some informal fact-finding. We need to be aware that this is a department where grads and staff are often wary of CGE.
New Furniture – When we get back, we’ll discuss what we need and how much we can afford.
Office Security – It appears that some of the other users of the building have been using our temporary office for their weekend activities, even though a lock has been installed on the door. We don’t appreciate this and will try to talk with Westmin about it again.
Convention Delegates Notice – We’ve drafted a letter to send out in January. We’ll also put a page on the website with more information about being a delegate and what Convention is about.
Labor Law Conference/YELL/Winter School – These have come up briefly in conversation, but we need to read a little more about them. We’ll talk about them more next week. The CLC told Daniel they could probably pay for his registration to the Labor Law Conference (in Portland). Winter School is at the end of January in Newport. Bret will compile some info about these various things in an email so we can make informed decisions about spending. Then we’ll put it forward to the reps.
Budget Updates – Forrest will work on updating the budget to reflect recent spending decisions. He’ll email it to be approved.
Bill About Pesticides (?) – Eric heard from an organization called Beyond Toxics that asked him to bring this up as something CGE could consider supporting. The EC does not feel comfortable making that decision and Eric will bring it up at the next rep meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 1:05 PM
