Oregon State University Graduate Employees Rally for a Fair Contract, Fight Back! News, September 9th, 2010
Rallying for a Raise, OSU Daily Barometer, September 12th, 2010
At 12:20 PM on Wednesday, September 8th, a few CGE people gathered on the steps of the Memorial Union. A few minutes later, a few more showed up. Then a few more. The trickle grew into a stream, and within 15 minutes there were 100 or more CGE members and supporters standing in front of the MU, ready to demonstrate in support of a fair contract:
There were speakers from CGE:
Support from ASOSU, the student government:
And faculty support:
Then we marched to Kerr Administration Building. Once at Kerr, we let everyone know we were coming:
Then we headed up to the top floor, where we spoke with OSU President Ed Ray:
Unfortunately, President Ray did not do what we asked, which was commit to improving conditions for graduate employees. He passed the buck and would only commit to a process. Funny thing, the university President passing the buck like that.
We are scheduled for mediation on October 6th, though there are some indications we will be able to wrap things up with OSU before then so we can focus on the 2010-2011 year in earnest. Thanks to all members and supporters (especially our brothers and sisters at the GTFF) who came out and supported CGE!
