The nice folks at Westtoast.com have written up this year’s Brew-Off, and CGE’s victory, in pretty epic fashion.  A  taste:

With our crack team assembled we ascended to the Oddfellows Hall into the brew milieu, commemorative pint glasses in hand.  We were greeted with delightful chaos – the 25 brewers circled up at tables peddling their wares, a cheerful crowd sampling and enjoying the night.  We spread out and got going.  It was hard to choose what to try first – IPA, nut brown, amber, golden, porter…the offerings were diverse.  My wino sensibility wanted to organize flavors before diving in, but given the energy of the night and my own eagerness, I opted to just start tasting.

Hey everyone – thanks to all of you who came to the second annual Brew-Off!  It was a huge success, with estimates (final numbers are not in yet) of close to 400 people attending and over $1,300 raised for Linn-Benton Food Share.  Oh, and there’s the little matter of prizes, it being a contest and all:

Best Beer: Nutsplosion (Brown Ale)

2nd Place: Yersinia Pistis

3rd Place: Indira IPA

Best Name: Scrotal Domination (gluten-free chestnut-based beer)

Best Experimental Beer: Thanksgiving Stew (vegetable spice beer)

Best Team (CGE vs. GTFF):  CGE!  Yes, after GTFF took the inaugural award home, we’ve reclaimed the trophy in 2011!

Brewer’s Choice: Three-way tie between Anfield Road, Indira IPA, and Well-Red Post-Bock

CGE is putting together an end of year party for all members, your friends and family at Thompson Shelter at Avery Park on Thursday, June 9th. Organized games of soccer, softball and kickball start between 2 and 4 PM, depending on how many people sign up for each, and we light the grill at 6 PM!  Oh, and let us know which sports you want to play so we know which ones we have enough people for to organize.

Directions to the shelter from campus can be found here or below the fold.

Please RSVP to organizer@cge6069.org if you know you’re going to make it, and let us know if you’re interested in taking part in the games!

It’s becoming an annual event!  On Friday, May 6th, at 9 PM at Lucky’s in Eugene, the Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation (the CGE of the University of Oregon) is hosting a fundraiser for Food for Lane County.  And this fundraiser has a bit of a twist:  It’s union members singing cover songs.

Some of them will even be good.  Maybe. Regardless of quality, though, this is about having fun, helping people out, and a little local-to-local mingling.

Check below the fold for the event flier.
